The Cafe brings together the worlds of social justice and storytelling – through film.

Revolutionary Film Cafe is a virtual studio for those who believe in the power of documentary cinema to help change the world! It’s a hub for Aspiring Filmmakers with powerful stories to tell, a networking space for Film School Graduates who want a meaningful start in an impactful profession, a safe zone for Social Justice Warriors who operate from a place of love and compassion, a sanctuary for Broken Souls who want to heal through the medium of film, and, last but not least, a like-minded peer group for Working Filmmakers who are battling an existential crisis because making film is no longer making sense!

Fazeli FilmsTrue II Soul Network and Broken Whole Productions have joined forces to bring the world of socially-conscious filmmaking to you through The Cafe. Our instructor, Hossein Martin Fazeli, is the A-List, multi-award-winning, film director, and staunch human rights activist whose films have been broadcast around the world. This course offers both an overview of the industry, as well as attention to individual projects.

Participants explore how to develop stories that can affect reality on the ground and change lives.

Participants learn how to finance and distribute documentaries in a fast-changing world where the traditional channels of support for documentary filmmaking (ie: network involvement and foundation grants) are becoming more and more scarce and less and less reliable.

Participants have an opportunity to share an idea or story with the instructor and receive feedback and coaching.

Participants who participate in the 4-workshop series are provided a summary of the series material (please allow up to 2 weeks)

When you enrol at Revolutionary Film Cafe, it’s more than a class, it’s inspired and practical learning, socially conscious and transformative work, developing authentic and lifelong relationships and connecting on a global scale. Cafe Filmmakers have full access to the following:

  • EVERY ROUND, participant(s) selected to be featured, receive feedback and offered guidance (open to view for all currently enrolled filmmakers)
  • ANNUAL Film Showcase to spotlight the work of selected participants who are UNREPRESENTED (currently enrolled filmmakers are eligible)

Powerful Stories on Screen

PHOOLAN tells the untold true story of Phoolan Devi, known to many as the Bandit Queen of India, who became a social justice warrior and a female Robin Hood. Born a poor village girl, the illiterate low-caste Phoolan became a rebel bandit and ultimately the leader of an all-male gang.

After taking revenge on 22 high-caste men for her violent rape, this notorious bandit became the subject of one of the largest manhunts in Indian history. Phoolan evaded capture for over 4 years, and in 1983, surrendered only on her own terms.

During her 11-year incarceration, Phoolan abandoned Hinduism and became a Buddhist, with its code of non-violence.

Upon her release from prison, she was convinced by the low-caste political party to run for a seat in Parliament. In a surprise victory that sent shock waves through India, Phoolan WON and became the first low-caste woman ever elected to that office. Phoolan captured the hearts and transformed the lives of hundreds of millions of poor Indian women and, like Gandhi, was a champion for their rights until she was assassinated in 2001.

Our multi-award winning team led by Hossein Martin Fazeli and Jack Silberman, who collectively have received 100 awards for their films, is working around the clock to complete the film.
