I’ve recently connected with a beautiful man who said: “When we are brought out of something, it is not (only) for us – it is for the people coming after us.” This statement served as the perfect reminder to me of my “5 Ws + H”. WHY do I do what I do? WHY are healing and transformation so vital to me? WHAT/WHO is all of my work serving? WHERE am I heading? HOW am I getting there? WHEN am I ready? and with whom am I to share this journey?
These questions lead me to a place much more profound than the daily hustle and grind. This type of inquiry is not about marketing strategies and brand clarity – ’cause folks; I gotta say, despite scrambling to accumulate money, power and things – we somehow still wind up feeling dissatisfied. Why is that? Some people argue that this is our motivation. It is how we evolve. Seriously though. We achieve our goals and then look around in wonderment because we are still left wanting and asking: “Is this it?” So what do we do? We climb right back onto the hamster wheel thinking that the answer must be to keep busy, move faster and run longer. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t vilify money, power or material gain because, on their own, they do and mean nothing. We, as human beings, are the ones who attribute the significance, the potential for harm…or the potential for good. It all just leaves me asking: “What else?”
The deeper place I’m getting to is TRANSFORMATION. In the midst of day to day living, I sometimes forget the expansive truth behind my work and healing. My transformation does not just affect me at this current time. In fact, it does not only affect those – for whom I deeply care – around me. My transformation affects my legacy; including with what and into what my descendants are born. My transformation affects my history – by acknowledging, appreciating and even transforming the work, sacrifices, successes and life that my ancestors gifted me and the world through time.
Transformation is not just about quitting smoking, making money, losing weight, gaining knowledge, or gaining fame. Transformation is a way of BEING that allows us to continually re-affirm our birthright to evolve and grow continually. The act of healing and permitting change is a fulfilment of an inherited promise. This is a perpetual gift that we accept and promise that we make from the moment of our first breath. A promise and gift to our ancestors, to our descendants, to the world and ourselves to grow and evolve.
WE ARE well-being and happiness. We need only REMEMBER THIS. We have the capacity to TRANSFORM into a state of greater abundance – causing RIPPLE EFFECTS through out life and time. Our transformation can affect family, legacy, and may even deal with some things that our parents or grandparents had not. We offer HOPE AND INSPIRATION to people who bear witness to our transformation. We send a clear message of “WE DO what WE WANT to do because WE CAN!” Transformation is not for special people in special circumstances. TRANSFORMATION IS OUR BIRTHRIGHT & A PERPETUAL GIFT.
